Pulled from Pamlico Sound and transported to the
KBSTRRC by NC wildlife officials. This small Kemp's Ridley presented
with multiple fractures of the skull behind the left eye, 2.5-3 cm in diameter.
Secondary to the skull fractures are numerous sites of necrotic bone
on the carapace with large notched areas above both rear flippers in stages
of healing.

Started on Fortaz to fight infection. Wounds are
cleaned and covered in triple antibiotic ointment or cream daily. PCV at
admission was 25%, Glucose 137.
Turtle swims and dives and will accept food.  |

The rough edges of the bone were trimmed (under
anesthesia). The skull fracture has healed in remarkable time.
Let's wish this little guy safe passage from humans for the remainder of
his life. |
