THE STRANDING This sea turtle was observed hanging out in a boat basin off of the ICW at Shinn Point for a couple of days.  One person thought something seemed wrong and that night had a dream about the turtle, so the next day he was determined to find someone who could help.  The Coast Guard sent out a boat, and though they thought the turle seemed ok they notified Nancy Fahey of the Wrightville Beach turtle project.  When Nancy arrive she could see it was "one of those turtles", the emaciated, barnacle covered, living dead turtles we have seen so much of this year.  The turtle was able to evade the would be rescuers for a time, until she surface for air at the side of a dock.  David Fahey happened to be standing there and he jumped into the water, boots and all, and grabbed one surprised turtle.
THE TREATMENT The turtles admitted in this condition are given fluids and antibiotics.  Fortunately Shinn was in good enough condition to accept food and by the end of the week was eating 12 squid a day.
