| THE STRANDING | Observed in Topsail Beach,
floating in the near shore waters, by folks from Maryland vacationing
here. They mentioned it to their property manager while he was
there. He just happens to be married to Topsail Turtle Project
volunteer, Marti, who just happened to be along for the ride. She
called me. Within minutes we were both in the water advancing toward the turtle. We swam out to the turtle and gently turned her around and pushed her into shore. There were plenty of helping hands on beach. Onto a tarp and into a truck, she was off to the KBSTRRC. |
| THE TREATMENT | The turtle is very lethargic
and underweight. She received an antibiotic and was placed in
very shallow water for the night. She was placed in deeper water today and offered food, but she declined. |

The turtle died in the morning and will be
necropsied. |
