THE STRANDING

Sisters Peg Schill and Chris Mooney have been coming to the beach since their parents built a house on the island in the 60’s. Both ladies eventually bought their own homes here, coming down whenever they could to enjoy the ocean and the critters that live in it. It was on their most recent visit that Chris saw what she thought was a large rock, or possibly some debris on the beach and went to investigate. As she got closer she realized that she was dealing with a sea turtle in distress and immediately enlisted the help of her sister. Peg headed to the shore with a large towel, which she soaked in sea water and placed on the turtle to keep him cool and moist. This little guy had been out there for who knows how long, exposed to the sun, wind and predators and the sisters took on the role of guardians until help could be located.
Our winter interns were called to the rescue.  We were all surprised at her size as she is much larger than the typical size we see in our facility.
THE TREATMENT She seems alert but has no interest in food.  This is not uncommon in turtles that have not eaten for some time.

AndersonII has no appetite.  She has been 'encouraged' to eat and is able to eliminate waste, so we feel a blockage is not the problem.
