THE STRANDING Observers on the Surf City pier noticed this turtle floating on the water.  Vacationers were observers in the water helping to direct the rescue.  Volunteer Terry Meyer borrowed a boogie board from an innocent bystander and swam out to the turtle.  After some waiting and swimming and  diving, the turtle was turned toward land and pushed into shore.  Thanks to surfer girl Jordan, who paddled out to help with paddling in.  Interns from the hospital were waiting in the surf and gently carried her on to shore, and into a waiting vehicle.
THE TREATMENT Leeches.  This girl was full of leeches.  Her nose and mouth full of leeches.  After administering fluids, hundreds of leeches were removed before placing her in fresh water.  Fresh water will kill the leeches and leech eggs.
