THE STRANDING Observed for a few days in the boat basin of Bradley Creek.  Not a good place for a sea turtle.  Veteran Sea Turtle Rescuer Nancy Fahey was called to the scene.  She was able to enter the murky water and retrieve this injured turtle.

This loggerhead is missing her right front flipper and the left front flipper is compromised.  Additionally she has a deep gash in her neck and carapace.
Probable boat strike.

Bradley is a big sweetie.  Who couldn't love a face like that.
JAN 2008
Now the friendliest sea turtle, Bradley has healed very well and has minimal treatments to keep him healthly.  Likes to saty hello in the mornings and tries to convince various staff members to let him go, but he still has a bit of healing to do.

APRIL 08
The big swim before the BIG SWIM.

Bradley, Canal, and Jersey Girl are all missing at least one flipper.
Bradley lost a flipper to a boat propeller.
Canal lost a front and rear flipper to sharks.
Jersey Girl lost a flipper entangled in fishing gear.

All have recovered from their wounds and are ready for release but they had to pass a final swim test.
Our good friends at the FORT FISHER AQUARIUM allowed our turtles to use one of their 65,000 gallon tanks for swim practice.

The final test  measures see how Bradley reacts in a larger space with deeper water.  Mellow Bradley enjoyed several laps around the tank and is good to go in June.
