| THE STRANDING | Carter was found in a pound net, slowly
succumbing to injuries, consistent with being dropped or crushed.
There are 2 full length longitudinal fractures of the carapace and 1 longitudinal
fracture of the plastron.
The injuries appear several weeks old. |
| THE TREATMENT | The turtle was delivered
to the KBSTRRC by State Assistant Sea Turtle Coordinator Susana Clusella.
The turtle was placed in shallow water.
Antibacterial cream was applied to the wounds and antibiotics were administered. Carter remains in very shallow water to make lifting her head for a breath a little easier. |
| 10/09/01 | Carter died today, succumbing to not only the injuries, but also to a terrible case of pnumonia. |
