THE STRANDING This little turtle was found rolling around in the surf in Atlantic Beach (on the Crystal Coast) on Saturday evening by some very responsive beach walkers.  They knew help was needed and immediately called Marine Patrol who eventually connected with Wendy Cluse of the NC Wild Resources Commission and frequent turtle rescuer.

The turtle was very lethargic and covered in barnacles.  Wendy brought him for a quick check-up with the Veterinarian, and then she transported him to the KBSTRRC. Since some suspicious plaques we noticed on the tongue, the plan was to prepare a place where the turtle could be isolated and warmed up slowly
THE TREATMENT Warmed slowly, given fluids and antibiotics

Very thin and carapace in poor condition.  She had a tough winter our there.
JUL 2009 Adjusting to hospital routines and healing.
Treatments are aways a two person job
