STRANDING |
Rescued near Ocean Isle, NC, this turtle
had a fish hook and wire protruding from the mouth. The line was
cut and the turtle was transported to the KBSTRRC by members of the Ocean
Isle Sea Turtle Project.

TREATMENT |
The sea turtle was not offered food.
Fortaz was administered. |
| JUNE
22, 2001 |
Isle was taken to the NC State University, College
of Veterinary Medicine,
in Raleigh, NC, by members of the KBSTRRC.
Radiographs located the exact position of the fish hook; in the esophagus
at the level of the thoracic inlet.
Endoscopy guided the removal of the hook.
Hematology results reveal moderate anemia.
After the extraction the sea turtle was returned to the KBSTRRC. |

There is possible esophageal abrasion due to the
hook removal, however there was no obvious bleeding.
No food will be offered four 3-4 days.
Medications: Fortaz, B Complex and iron Dextran once she resumes feeding.

Isle has responded very
well.
She is one of those turtles who never says no to a meal. |
