| THE STRANDING | This juvenile loggerhead was rescued from the Marina Boat Basin at Bald Head Island with severe boat propeller injuries. She sustained cracks on the carapace and plastron including complete penetration of the body cavity. |

| THE TREATMENT | Once in the KBSTRRC the turtle was wrapped in bandages
to hold the entire body together. Blood test revealed a PCV of 14%
and glucose of
161 mg/dl. She was placed on foam padding in a carrier box. 8/11/99 she was taken to the NC State University College of Veterinary Medicine where surgery was performed. |
| THE PROGNOSIS | After surgery Marina was returned to the KBSTRRC. However the injuries proved to be too severe to overcome and she died early Monday morning, 8/16/99 |
