| NETTIE II |
LOGGERHEAD Caretta caretta Juvenile |
|
| THE STRANDING | Nettie II was found in a pound
net and an unusual wound to the flipper was noticed. She has a
puncture wound through the right carpel joint. Some healing was
noted however the wound seems to be festering. |
| THE TREATMENT | The wound was flushed and
treated with antibiotics. After acclimation to her new
surroundings she was happy to eat a pound of fish. |
Nettie II has responded well to treatment. It was hard to catch her flipper on the upstroke but the white area on her flipper is the healing tissue. |

An offer by the Coast Guard coupled with
lack of space equals early release for Nettie and others. Nettie
would have been released in June when our near shore water warms, but
with a ride to the gulf stream she opted to go now. And she was READY!. She attempted to self release during the 2.5 hour trip to the 70 degree waters of the gulf stream. Thanks to our Coast Guard friends she had a few friendly hands with strong sea legs to gently let her go. And away she went See the release page for more photos |
