THE STRANDING Found beached with serious carapace injuries, near Cape Lookout at Ophelia Inlet.  A large piece of carapace over the left rear flipper was sliced and hanging.
The wound did not appear fresh however the jagged edges were causing continued damage to the muscle.
THE TREATMENT Misted with fresh water, wound and pieces of carapace bound by gauze.
Antibiotics and pain medication were administered.
Dr Harms evaluated the turtle the following morning and worked on removing necrotic bone and cleaning the wound.
We will try to float the turtle in shallow water and coax her to eat.
