THE STRANDING Found in Pamlico Sound south of Ocracoke, NC.
THE TREATMENT This turtle has a large long-line hook imbedded in the proximal section of the left front flipper.  She will travel to the Vet School next week for removal.
The circle indicates the "eye" end of the hook.
The arrow indicate the point of entry, with the remainder of the hook wrapped internally around the bone.
April 2002 Post surgical complications involving sutures which did not dissolve properly caused swelling and loss of movement in the flipper, delaying healing.
When the wound has closed sufficiently she can be released.
Radiographs were ordered. .
