PIER:   KEMP'S RIDLEY (Lepidochelys kempi) AGE:  2-3 years
                                              Stranded 6/6/98            Released 6/10/98

The Kemp's Ridley Sea Turtles are the smallest of all living sea turtles and also the


 MOST ENDANGERED.

THE INJURY OR ILLNESS:  Alert fishers from a Topsail Island fishing pier found this small sea turtle with a fish hook imbedded in its throat.  These fishers wrapped the sea turtle ( about the size of dinner plate) in a towel and brought her to the rescue center.  Director Jean Beasley was able to remove the hook and the turtle is swimming happily in her new red tank.
THE PROGNOSIS: Released June 10, 1998
                                 Pier was released on the beach strand of Topsail Beach along with
                                 Corey and Cee Cee.
