| THE
STRANDING |
Found in Pamlico Sound near
Ocracoke, with three boat propeller wounds to the carapace, two into
the body cavity.
Initially taken to CMAST and examined by Dr. Craig Harms. Dr.
Harms administered antibiotics and flushed the wounds of debris.

| THE
TREATMENT |
The turtle was placed in
shallow water, enough to float. The wounds were covered
with antibiotic cream.

Spring 2010
|
Virginia was placed in a regular tank in
plenty of water, and like all turtles felt right at home. Her
wounds were attended to multiple times per week.
She has a great appetite.
|
Fall 2010
|
Virginia has been upsized to the nice aqua
tank by the south window.
Her wounds continue to heal.

January 2011
|
Sea turtles keep their gender a secret
until they reach their teens. Then the males begin to sport a
tail which extends beyond the carapace. Virginia is just the
right age and has recently announced s/he is Virgil, not
Virginia.
Here she is sunbathing on a sunny winter day.
