THE STRANDING
This loggerhead washed in at Holden Beach.  The good folks from the Holden Beach project brought her in.  She is skinny and her carapace is in poor condition.
THE TREATMENT She initially received fluids, antibiotics and Betadine soaks. She began eating on her own after the first day and  ate 2.5 pounds of squid in one feeding. Many times after a long period of not eating it is difficult to get them interested in eating again, so this was a good sign.

DEC 2011
There is nothing about this turtle today that resembles her heatlth in June.
She loves to eat.  Once she had her appetite back she recovered quickly.
Winter 2012
Westy is a eating machine.  Always a member of the clean plate club.  She is just waiting for summer.
