Momma with baby turtle
Did you know that a momma turtle will come back to the beach where she was hatched to lay her eggs? You will hear this referred to as her "natal beach".
Topsail Island sees mostly loggerhead, some green and rarely Kemp's Ridley nests. Volunteers walk the beaches from early May to the end of August, looking for turtle tracks and nests.
This plush turtle has momma carrying her baby on her back in a special pouch. The baby is attached, but can easily be cut loose to play with. She measures 14inches from nose to tail. Look for the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Rescue and Rehabilitation Center logo!
